The Hub Pro Electric team recently responded to an emergency service call involving a sump pump failure and basement flooding at a residential property in the Atlanta, Georgia area.
Upon arriving at the property, our electricians discovered that the sump pump responsible for removing water from the basement had completely stopped operating. Following recent heavy rainfall, a significant amount of water had entered the basement, and without a functioning pump, the water had nowhere to go.
During the initial inspection, our team found that an electrical fault had occurred within the pump circuit, causing the breaker to trip. This issue not only prevented the sump pump from operating but also created a potential fire hazard that required immediate attention.
After performing a detailed diagnostic inspection, we discovered that water intrusion had damaged the electrical receptacle supplying power to the sump pump. One of the electrical conductors had overheated and failed, preventing power from reaching the equipment. As a result, the sump pump was unable to remove water, and much of the basement had become flooded, causing significant inconvenience and damage to the homeowner.
Our electricians immediately began the repair process. The damaged receptacle was located in a crawl-space-like area beneath the home, where muddy and difficult working conditions added another level of complexity to the project. Despite the challenging environment, our team successfully replaced the damaged receptacle, repaired the electrical connections, and completed all required testing to verify safe operation.
To help prevent similar issues in the future, we also relocated the receptacle to a higher elevation where it would be less vulnerable to water exposure during severe weather or flooding conditions.
After restoring power to the sump pump system and confirming proper operation, the homeowner requested assistance with two additional electrical upgrades inside the home.
Because the basement work had left our technicians covered in mud and debris, our team first changed into clean work clothing before moving on to the interior installation work.
The first task involved installing a new ceiling fan light in one of the home’s rooms. We also installed a decorative chandelier fixture in another area of the house.
Since the homeowner preferred not to add a new wall switch, our electricians installed a switch/receptacle combination device within the existing outlet box. This solution provided convenient lighting control without requiring additional wall modifications or new wiring runs.
By the end of the day, all requested work had been completed successfully. The sump pump system was restored, the electrical safety concerns were corrected, and the new lighting fixtures were fully operational.
