The Hub Pro Electric team recently completed one of our most challenging and unique chandelier installation projects in Duluth, Georgia, part of the Metro Atlanta area.
What began as a chandelier replacement quickly developed into a complex two-day project involving a 25-foot ceiling, a nearly 300-pound chandelier, structural reinforcement, specialty access equipment, and even the relocation of the homeowner’s existing chandelier to the lighting store where the new fixture was purchased.
Removing the Existing Chandelier From a 25-Foot Ceiling
The existing chandelier was installed approximately 25 feet above the floor, making safe access one of the first challenges of the project.
Our team used a specialty extension ladder designed for high-ceiling work to carefully reach the fixture, disconnect the electrical wiring, and safely lower the existing chandelier.
But that was only the beginning.
The homeowner asked our team to transport the old chandelier to the lighting store where the replacement fixture had been purchased.
A Unique Chandelier Swap at the Lighting Store
When we arrived at the store, we discovered that the homeowner’s new chandelier was not sitting in a box waiting for pickup—it was actually hanging from the ceiling as a display fixture.
Our electricians first had to carefully remove the new chandelier from the store’s ceiling.
We then installed the homeowner’s old chandelier in its place, essentially completing a full chandelier swap before transporting the new fixture back to the customer’s home.
This unusual part of the project required additional time, careful handling, and coordination to ensure both fixtures were safely removed, transported, and installed.
A Nearly 300-Pound Chandelier Required Structural Reinforcement
Once the new chandelier arrived at the home, we faced the most important technical challenge of the project.
The new fixture weighed approximately 300 pounds, and after evaluating the existing ceiling structure, our team determined that the available support was not adequate for a chandelier of this size and weight.
Installing such a heavy fixture without proper structural support was not an option.
Our team accessed the installation area from the floor above, carefully opened a section of the flooring, and reinforced the structure using additional wood framing and supports.
This created a strong mounting structure capable of safely supporting the weight of the new chandelier.
Only after verifying that the support system was secure did we proceed with the final installation.
Installing the New Chandelier 25 Feet Above the Floor
With the structural reinforcement complete, our team carefully raised and secured the new chandelier approximately 25 feet above the floor.
Because of the fixture’s size and weight, every stage of the installation required careful planning, teamwork, and attention to safety.
Once the main chandelier assembly was securely mounted, the detailed finishing work began.
The decorative glass components were installed individually, followed by the light bulbs and remaining finishing pieces. Our electricians then carefully inspected the fixture, electrical connections, mounting hardware, and overall installation before testing the chandelier.
The finished result was a large, elegant statement fixture that completely transformed the interior space.
A Challenging Two-Day Chandelier Installation
What might initially sound like a simple chandelier replacement became a two-day project involving high-ceiling access, transportation of two large fixtures, removal and installation work at two different locations, structural reinforcement, electrical work, and the detailed assembly of a nearly 300-pound chandelier.
Projects like this demonstrate why large and heavy chandelier installations require much more than basic electrical knowledge.
Proper structural support, safe access, secure electrical connections, careful handling, and experience working with oversized fixtures are all critical to completing the installation safely.
The homeowner was extremely pleased with the final result, and our team was proud to successfully complete one of the most challenging—and interesting—lighting projects we have worked on recently.
At Hub Pro Electric, whether we’re replacing a standard residential light fixture or installing a massive chandelier 25 feet above the floor, our priority remains the same: safe installation, professional workmanship, and a finished result our customers can enjoy with confidence.
